Gavisha Mugon
Proteomics Research Technician
Biography
Gavisha is originally from Quatre Bornes, Mauritius. She received a BSc in Biochemistry with a minor in mathematics from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. During her undergrad, Gavisha was a research assistant at the Millsaps W.M Keck Center for Instrumental and Biochemical Comparative Archeology Lab, which is dedicated to the study of past human behaviour through archaeometric and biochemical research methods. For two and a half years, she has worked with archeological samples from Mayan sites, identifying plant species used for their psychoactive properties from ancient artifacts by isolating reliable biomarkers for analysis in the mass spec. Gavisha has had the opportunity to work on instruments such as the LC-MS, GC-MS, XRF and Raman spectrophotometer at the Keck Center. After graduating, Gavisha decided to shift her focus from metabolomics to proteomics, and moved to New Orleans to work as a lab technician in the newly formed Proteomics Core Facility at the Tulane School of Medicine.
