Biography

Elaina Owens Chabert, MPH, RD, LDN, CDCES is one of the diabetes educators at the Tulane Center for Diabetes, Tulane School of Medicine, Endocrine Department.  She has a master’s degree in public health from Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine located in New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University (LSU) located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Currently, Elaina is licensed as a dietitian in 12 different states. 

 As a child, Elaina became interested in diabetes education after she cared for one of her own cats who had diabetes.  And while a student at LSU, Elaina volunteered several of her summers at diabetes camp in Leesville, Louisiana and later, after becoming a registered dietitian, she held the position of head dietitian at diabetes camp. Originally from Chalmette, Louisiana, but now residing in Covington, Louisiana, Elaina loves spending most of her downtime with her husband, chickens and many cats but looks forward to spending her weekends at “The Camp” on Lake Pontchartrain located in Slidell, Louisiana.
