Biography

Dr. Torres graduated with honors from the Medical School of the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. After graduation, he completed his Internal Medicine residency at Tecnologico de Monterrey and subsequently became interested in Nephrology after research work in Texas studying Phase III Trials of novel Hypoxia-Inducible Factor inhibitors. He completed his Internal Medicine residency Nephrology fellowship at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.

During his residency and fellowship training, Dr. Torres participated in multiple research activities in the field of Nephrology and received the 2020-2021 Ochsner Research Award for Outstanding Research by Trainee and 2nd place in the Southern Society for Clinician Investigation (SSCI) Young Investigator Award in 2020. In addition, Dr. Torres serves as a Reviewer for PLOS ONE editorial.

Dr. Torres joined the Section of General Internal Medicine and the Section of Nephrology in July 2022 and currently serves both as an Academic Nephrologist Academic Hospitalist at University Medical Center and Tulane Medical Center.
