Biography

Dr. Austin Burkenstock joined the Section of General Internal Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2024. He practices as an Academic Hospitalist at University Medical Center, as well as East Jefferson General Hospital. A Louisiana native, Dr. Burkenstock grew up in Metairie, Louisiana. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry at Mississippi State University, and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at William Carey University. Dr. Burkenstock then completed Internal Medicine residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, followed by a year as Chief Resident. His primary interests include medical education, point-of-care ultrasound, and resident mentorship.
