Biography

Dr. Wenyan Sun is an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Neuroscience Research Center (CNRC), Department of Neurosurgery at Tulane University School of Medicine. She obtained her Ph.D. from Xi’an Jiaotong University in China. Following her doctoral studies, she conducted postdoctoral research and served as an Instructor at UT Health San Antonio from 2016 to 2021. During this time, Dr. Sun identified that aberrant activation of transposable element plays a significant role in neurodegenerative tauopathies. Dr. Sun then joined the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), where she advanced from Senior Research Associate to Research Assistant Professor. Since August 2024, she moved to Tulane University School of Medicine, where her research is focused on elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying neuronal dysfunction in neurological diseases, with a particular emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD).
