Dr. Rutkai’s laboratory investigates the role of mitochondria and therapeutic potential of mitochondria in the cerebral vasculature during aging and aging associated pathologies such as Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Rutkai’s laboratory uses imaging techniques (two-photon and laser speckle imaging) to study the effects of aging and sex on endothelial mitochondria and the brain vasculature in vivo in combination with a rodent model of cerebral hypoperfusion, electron microscopy, and proteomics.
Areas of Expertise
Cerebral Vasculature
Vascular mitochondria
In vivo imaging of cerebral endothelial mitochondria
