Patrick T. O'Neill, MD

Patrick T. O’Neill, MD is the Vice Chair for Adult Psychiatry Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, as well as a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He did his residency in general psychiatry at Tulane University Affiliated Hospitals. After residency he became an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Tulane University School of Medicine and later was promoted to Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry. He worked at Tulane Medical Center and Hospital as the Director of the adult psychiatry inpatient unit. Dr. O’Neill was Director of Residency Training in Adult Psychiatry at Tulane from 1987 until 2009. In 1989 he developed and became Director of the Mood Disorders Clinic at Tulane University Medical Center. He is currently a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Tulane University School of Medicine. He is Associate Chair for Clinical Affairs, Vice Chair for Adult Psychiatry and Director of the Telepsychiatry Division.

Dr. O’Neill is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of multiple other organizations, including the American College of Psychiatrists. He is a Past President of the Association for Academic Psychiatry (AAP), a longtime member of the American Association of Directors of Psychiatry Residency Training (AADPRT), a member of the American Telemedicine Association, and the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology.

In 2019, he was appointed by Governor Edwards to serve on the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners as Tulane Medical School representative.
