Biography
Aabha Divya, MBBS, MS, M.Ch., DNB is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine, specializing in advanced heart failure, cardiac transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support.
Dr. Divya completed an advanced cardiac fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard in Boston, USA, where she gained specialized experience in high-complexity cardiac procedures, including CABGs, valve repair and replacement, aortic surgeries, heart and lung transplants, and mechanical circulatory support devices. Over her career, she has performed more than 800 open heart surgeries, including valve replacements, CABGs, pediatric heart surgeries, and transplants.
She completed her medical education and training in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, India, the country’s top-most medical institute. Dr. Divya then gained further experience as a senior clinical fellow at the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Trust in Cambridge, UK, the UK’s largest heart and lung transplant and PTE center.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Divya is actively involved in research on cardiothoracic surgical outcomes. She serves as the Section Editor for Valvular Heart Disease at the Indian Journal of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, is an editorial board member for the Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and is an ad hoc reviewer for top journals such as the Annals of Thoracic Surgery and the Journal of Cardiovascular Anesthesia. She also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Cambridge and was awarded the Blended Learning Fellowship to create digital resources for surgical training.
Dr. Divya is a member of several prominent professional societies, including the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Women in Thoracic Surgery, the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland, the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, and the Indian Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
