Biography

Dr. Thakur strives to provide compassionate and effective care to families by understanding their perspectives and goals, and considering their individual, family, and social contexts. She utilizes a variety of medical and psychological interventions, with an emphasis on evidence based practices. She believes in the therapeutic power of positive relationships.

Dr. Thakur is board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and general psychiatry. She has experience in evaluating and treating the gamut of psychiatric problems that may arise across the life span, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, and oppositional behavior. She believes that all people, including children, deserve respect and voice.

Raised in New York, Dr. Thakur's interests include school mental health, particularly in New Orleans' dynamic educational environment where there is no shortage of adversity. To this end, she works in Jefferson Parish school-based health clinics and the New Orleans Therapeutic Day Program, which is a partnership between Tulane's Department of Psychiatry and New Orleans' public schools. She is also interested in increasing access to care, especially for rural populations in Southwest Louisiana, telemedicine, cultural psychiatry, and psychodynamics.
