Spine Disorders Program
Spinal disorders can involve chronic degenerative conditions (stenosis with encroachment on neural structures); scoliosis and spondylolisthesis (slippage and misalignment of the vertebrae); tumors of the bone, spinal cord, or nerve roots (ependymomas, astrocytomas, meningiomas, schwannomas and neuromas); and acute fractures of the spine with or without spinal cord injury.
Treatment of these conditions involves the expertise of not only our surgeons, but also physical therapists, and pain management specialists. As part of Tulane Spine Center, we will perform a thorough diagnostic evaluation and through a coordinated effort provide the full gamut of therapeutic options. Whether it involves medical treatment alone or surgical therapy, our surgeons are fellowship trained and have the expertise necessary to tailor therapy to each patients needs. Examples of some of the treatments provided include:
- Treatment of scoliosis and spondylolisthesis
- Microsurgical discectomy both cervical and lumbar
- Spinal fusion and stabilization
- Cervical disc arthroplasty
- Minimally invasive options (including discectomy and fusion)
- Kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty
- Spinal cord stimulators
Our surgeons are also involved in expanding therapies for the treatment of these disorders by adopting minimally invasive treatment options and offering disc replacement instead of fusion in appropriate candidates. They are also actively involved in research on areas such as spinal cord injury and regeneration.
