The Cystic Fibrosis Care Center at Children's Hospital New Orleans was established by Dr. William Waring in 1958 and is one of the oldest centers in the country. It is one of two centers in Louisiana accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The center is dedicated to diagnosis, patient care, education of cystic fibrosis care providers, and research into the therapy of cystic fibrosis. Care is provided to over one hundred children with cystic fibrosis, including young infants detected by newborn screening. Physicians, nurses, dietitians, respiratory care specialists, and social workers are trained at the center. Research has been done on all aspects of care including medications, quality of care, family dynamics in chronic disease, and approaches to lung clearance in cystic fibrosis. The Cystic Fibrosis Care Center is dedicated to excellent patient care, training of future care providers, and advancing the care of cystic fibrosis through research.
